Trade and consignment Guidelines
At Colorado Boat Center, we’re selective about the boats we take in to ensure we’re offering quality inventory and creating the best experience for both sellers and buyers.
We typically prefer boats that are 15 years old or newer. Older boats may be considered based on overall condition, market demand, and whether they align with the Colorado Boat Center standard. These are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
We also tend to see the strongest results with late-model pontoons, surf boats, and well-maintained family runabouts. Boats that align with how most of our customers are using the water today. While we review every opportunity individually, boats that are clean, well cared for, and market-ready typically have the best chance of being accepted and selling quickly.
Every boat, whether trade or consignment, will go through a full Colorado Boat Center service inspection. This includes a detailed review of the boat, motor, and trailer, along with checks on performance, safety equipment, and overall condition. Our team goes through each boat thoroughly so there are no surprises.
For trades, Colorado Boat Center covers the cost of the inspection. While this does not guarantee we will accept every trade, accurate and honest information on your trade evaluation gives us the best chance to move forward. Once accepted, your trade becomes part of our inventory and you can move forward with your new boat worry-free.
For consignments, the service inspection is an upfront cost to the customer. If any concerns come up, we will review them with you before the boat is listed. Items related to safety or the running condition of the motor will almost always need to be addressed prior to listing. Other items will be handled on a case-by-case basis. All work must be approved before it is completed, and you always have the option to move forward or pick up your boat.
All boats, whether trade or consignment, must provide current registrations for both the boat and trailer, the title for the trailer, or up-to-date bank payoff information if applicable. Any loans must be in good standing. Consignment boats are also required to carry insurance under the consignment program contract.
Once your boat passes inspection, our team will work with you to determine a competitive market price based on current data, condition, and comparable listings. We’re here to guide you through that process and help position your boat to sell effectively.
This is a fully transparent process, and communication is key every step of the way. If we’re not aligned on condition, pricing, or recommendations, Colorado Boat Center reserves the right to decline a trade or consignment.
