Colorado Boat Center Owner FAQs
Find answers to common questions about your new boat, registration, paperwork, mussel inspections, and more.
Registration & Paperwork
How soon do I need to register my boat and trailer?
You will have 30 days to register your boat with Colorado Parks & Wildlife and 60 days to obtain plates for your trailer through your county. At your closing, we provided you with the temporary paperwork needed to legally operate and transport your boat during this period. We recommend keeping these documents with you anytime you are heading to the lake.
Where do I register my boat and trailer?
Boat registrations are completed through Colorado Parks & Wildlife. Trailer registrations and license plates are completed through your local County Clerk and Recorder's Office.
I haven't received my paperwork in the mail yet. What should I do?
If it has been longer than two weeks since your purchase or closing, please contact our team and we'll be happy to assist.
I went to the county office and they don't have my paperwork yet. What should I do?
Before making a trip to the county office, we recommend calling them first to verify that your paperwork has been processed and entered into their system.
Do I have to physically go into the county office to get my registrations and plates?
Yes. The first time you register your boat and trailer and receive your plates, you must visit the appropriate offices in person. After your initial registration, most renewals can be completed online.
Mussel Inspections
Do I need a mussel inspection tag before heading to the lake?
Yes. If you arrive at the lake without a current mussel inspection seal or tag, the inspection station may require your boat to be inspected and could place your boat into a quarantine period before allowing it on the water.
To avoid delays, always make sure you get tagged when leaving the lake. This will help ensure you're ready for your next boating trip.
Do all lakes operate under the same mussel inspection requirements?
Not always. Colorado inspection seals and procedures are generally recognized throughout Colorado, but requirements can vary when traveling out of state.
Some states require additional inspections at state borders or before launching at certain waterways. We strongly recommend researching local regulations before traveling with your boat to avoid unexpected delays, quarantines, or launch restrictions.
Financing
When will my boat payment start?
Your first payment date is determined by your lender and loan contract. Most lenders schedule the first payment approximately 30–60 days after closing. Refer to your loan documents or contact your lender directly for exact payment information.
24/7 Advantage Program
Do I need my trailer plate before submitting my 24/7 Advantage form?
Yes. For insurance purposes, all fields on the form must be completed, including your trailer plate information.
I haven't signed up for the 24/7 Advantage Program. Can I still drop off my boat after hours?
No. You must be enrolled in the program before utilizing after-hours drop-off or pick-up services.
How long does it take for my 24/7 Advantage enrollment to be processed?
Please allow a few business days for processing after your completed form has been submitted.
Warranty Questions
I think I need to submit something under warranty, but I'm not sure if it's covered. Who should I contact?
Please visit our Service Page and complete a Warranty Submission Form. Once submitted, our team will review the information and work directly with the manufacturer. The manufacturer will determine whether the repair is covered under warranty, and approved warranty work will be completed by Colorado Boat Center.
Service & Maintenance
I can't remember my engine break-in period. What should I do?
Break-in procedures vary by manufacturer and engine model. Please refer to your owner's manual or contact our Service Department for guidance.
When should I schedule my 20-hour service?
We recommend contacting our Service Department when your engine reaches approximately 18 hours. This allows enough time to get you scheduled while ensuring the service is performed at the proper interval.
My boat won't start. What should I check first?
Before calling for service, check the following:
- Are your batteries turned on?
- Is the emergency kill switch properly attached?
- Do you have fuel in the boat?
- Are your battery connections secure?
If you've checked these items and are still experiencing issues, please contact our Service Department.
Who do I contact for service?
Contact our Service Department by phone, email, or through our online service request form.
Prepaid Maintenance Program
I did not purchase the two-year prepaid maintenance program when I picked up my boat. How long do I have to decide?
You have until your 20-hour service to decide whether you would like to purchase the two-year prepaid maintenance program. If you're interested, please contact our Service Department prior to scheduling your 20-hour service.
What happens if my prepaid maintenance program expires and I haven't used all of the included services?
You will have a 10-day grace period following the expiration of your prepaid maintenance program. After the grace period has passed, any unused services included in the program are no longer available.
We recommend scheduling your maintenance services well in advance of your expiration date to ensure you receive the full benefit of the program.
Parts & Accessories
I want to add accessories to my boat. Who should I contact?
Our Parts Department can help you select and order accessories, and our Service Department can assist with installation if needed.
Safety Equipment
What safety equipment is required on my boat?
Every boat should have:
- A properly fitting life jacket for every person on board
- An emergency kill switch lanyard (where applicable)
- A sounding device (whistle or horn)
- A fire extinguisher
- A throwable flotation device with a 25-foot rope attached
Requirements may vary based on boat size and usage. Always review current U.S. Coast Guard regulations.
Boating Education
When do you offer your boating classes?
We offer complimentary boating classes for our boating family each year during the month of May.
How do I sign up for a boating class?
Registration opens in April, and eligible customers will receive an email invitation with registration details.
Loyalty Program
How do I see my loyalty or reward points?
If you have questions about your rewards balance, please contact our team.
When you receive a reward certificate notification, we recommend printing or saving your certificate for your records. Reward certificates are valid for one year from the date they are issued.
Please note that Colorado Boat Center is unable to see when individual reward certificates expire and cannot extend expiration dates. Once a reward certificate has expired, it is no longer valid and cannot be reinstated.
